Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) resist degradation in the environment and bioaccumulate in the food chain. They include chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, solvents, and dioxins.
Thermo Fisher Scientific has a strong commitment to supporting laboratories charged with the task of researching and monitoring POPs. Our commitment ensures high productivity, value-added solutions for some of the most challenging POPs determinations. To reinforce our commitment, we have established a POPs Center of Excellence which is staffed with experts in POPs analysis and serves as a direct resource for our customers and associates.
High-resolution GC-MS methods confirm the presence of dioxins in food, meeting international regulations. Applications with the Thermo Scientific DFS show that dioxins present in dirty matrices, including food, can be analyzed at the low levels mandated by these regulations. The Thermo Scientific Quantum XLS triple quadrupole mass spectrometer and the Thermo Scientific ITQ ion trap methods and applications provide complimentary analysis of dioxins, PCBs and other POPs.
