Endocrine Active Chemicals (EACs)

Endocrine Active Chemicals (EAC) are known to act against the endocrine system producing nervous, reproductive, and invasive disorders. We offer an animal-free, non-targeted test for EACs, leveraging our Thermo Scientific* ToxInsight* IVT Platform.

The Thermo Scientific ToxInsight IVT platform and associated Endocrine Profiler Panel Assays enable highly sensitive detection of Endocrine Active Chemicals ( EACs) from complex mixtures and provide an in vitro non-targeted screening platform for indentifying the presence or absence of EAC's in the environment, food packaging, food ingredients, pharmaceuticals, plastics and resins, and consumer chemicals. The basis for the detection is an engineered human cell line expressing the estrogen or androgen receptor fused to a Green Fluorescent Protein. Upon activation by a suspected EAC, the receptor translocates to the nucleus of the cell where the ToxInsight IVT imaging platform directly visualizes the activated receptor and reports the biological event to the scientist. Importantly, a measure of the magnitude of the translocation response, determined by a sophisticated image analysis algorithm, is directly related to the potency of the EAC. As a result, the potency of the suspect EAC is reported to the scientist in a simple report,ranking its activity against common control substances e.g Bis phenol A or 17-β estradiol.
