The Winter Conference Award in Plasma Spectrochemistry was established in 2009 and has been presented to Prof. Ramon Barnes PhD (middle) at the Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry on January 4, 2010 in Fort Myers, Florida, USA by Prof. Gary M. Hieftje, Indiana University (left), and Dr. Lothar Rottmann, Thermo Fisher Scientific (right). Ramon Barnes has chaired the scientific committee for the award in 2012.
The award committee chooses the winner by simple majority. The 2010/11 award committee consisted of 7 members with the previous winner as chairman. Every new chairman has the right to appoint 6 respected scientists as members of the award committee. As soon as the winner and the other members of the new award committee have accepted their nomination they replace the old chairman and committee.
All applications or nominations will be collected by Thermo Fisher Scientific and forwarded to the committee. The winner shall be announced approximately one year ahead of the presentation of the award.
The winner will be awarded a sum of $5,000 USD, travel support to the Winter Conference on Plasmachemistry, and meeting registration.
To apply for the Winter Conference Award in Plasma Spectrochemistry or to nominate a candidate, please submit accompanying documents (nominating letter, one-page CV and no more than one supporting letter) to wpc.award@thermofisher.com by October, 31, 2012.
