Thermo Scientific Nunc Edge Plate and Tecan Infinite 200 PRO Multimode Reader Enable Long-Term Cell-Based Experiments
ROCHESTER, NY (July 1, 2012) - Thermo Fisher Scientific* Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that the Tecan* Infinite 200 PRO* multimode reader with Gas Control Modules (GCM) is optimized to work with Thermo Scientific* Nunc* Edge plates to enable long-term cell-based studies over several days. Tecan has included Nunc Edge* plate specifications in all of its reader software, saving valuable equipment setup time.
The Nunc Edge plate incorporates large perimeter evaporation buffer zones that eliminate well-to-well variability while reducing the overall plate evaporation rate to less than two percent after seven days of incubation. Researchers found that by incorporating the GCM and the unique evaporation moat feature of the Nunc Edge Plate, they are able to control CO2 and O2 measurement inside the reader's chamber. This prevents an unwanted pH shift that could result in loss in cell viability, proliferation stop or cell death, and it enables use of all of the wells in the 96-well plate without "edge effect." Edge effect commonly occurs during prolonged incubations, with evaporation occurring in the outer 36 wells of a 96-well-plate format, negatively impacting cell viability.
The companies have produced an application note as part of a co-marketing agreement, Analyzing biological processes long-term cell-based kinetics using Tecan's GCM and the Thermo Scientific Nunc Edge Plates, which validates this capability. Additional posters, co-marketing and collaborative pieces will be developed to further enhance the relationship between Tecan’s reader capabilities and Thermo Scientific Nunc microplates.
