COBOS Coal Blend Optimization System

Thermo Scientific* COBOS is a coal-blending software package developed to blend coals from multiple sources to achieve a quality target.
The COBOS software is the most widely used blending program in the coal industry. It can blend up to six coal sources and achieve up to five simultaneous quality control targets, such as sulfur and ash. Automatic or manual blending can be done continuously or in batch mode with feeder proportioning as frequently as every minute.
 
 
 
 
 
Through the use of a Thermo Scientific coal analyzer, the quality of the coal being shipped can be continuously monitored. Using this information plus the COBOS control software, the product quality can be controlled to satisfy customer specifications.

  • Handles up to six coal sources and up to five control parameters
  • Operates in manual or automatic mode

Manual Mode

  • Sends blend recommendations to operator through console screen
  • Operator is responsible for acting on control values

Automatic Mode

  • Sends feeder control requests to control system
  • Control system then controls the feed from the sources based on COBOS-generated values
  • COBOS accepts constraints on flow rate from any source as well as minimum and maximum values on all control parameters
