Albumin is the most abundant protein in human plasma, representing 55 to 65% of the total protein. Albumin has a relatively small size which makes it a useful indicator of the integrity of glomerular and other membranes. Hyperalbumin is associated with dehydration while hypoalbuminemia is associated with many illnesses including, but not limited to, kidney disease, liver disease, tissue damage, and inflammation and malnutrition.
