Sarasota 200 Open Channel Flowmeter

The Thermo Scientific* Sarasota 200 open channel flowmeter ensures accurate, reliable flow measurement.
Measures flow directly in open channels without causing obstructions and without the need for weirs or flumes. By calculating flow directly from the measurement of water velocity and depth, it overcomes the inherent limitations of traditional methods of volumetric flow measurement that can be expensive and obstructive and enable drown out in high flow conditions. A new leak detection feature employs two flowmeters working together in a master-slave configuration to provide a comparison of upstream and downstream flow measurement to alleviate ruptures.

With a multi-path configuration and smart transducer technology, the Thermo Scientific Sarasota 200 ultrasonic open channel flowmeter ensures accurate, reliable flow measurement. A new leak detection feature employs two flowmeters working together in a master-slave configuration to provide a comparison of upstream and downstream flow measurement to alleviate ruptures.

The Sarasota 200 measures flow directly in open channels without causing obstructions and without the need for weirs or flumes. By calculating flow directly from the measurement of water velocity and depth, it overcomes the inherent limitations of traditional methods of volumetric flow measurement that can be expensive and obstructive and enable drown out in high flow conditions.

For installation in rivers, open channels, or closed conduits, the Sarasota 200 operates over the full bi-directional flow range without causing obstruction or head loss. While this ultrasonic method is traditionally associated with applications where the water is relatively clean and free from weeds and entrained air, the Sarasota 200 can meet the demands of applications such as sewer flow measurement.

Leak Detection Application

A new leak detection feature employs two flowmeters working together in a master-slave configuration to provide a comparison of upstream and downstream flow measurement. If this measurement exceeds a pre-defined threshold, a series of alarms will begin that culminates with closure of the pipeline. Generally, the pipe is shutdown using a gate or penstock to alleviate ruptures that could lead to catastrophic flooding.
