300i SR/IR Neutron Flux Monitoring System

Thermo Scientific* 300i SR/IR single system replaces both SR and IR channels with a modular configuration that allows easy installation, quick troubleshooting and repair.
Upgrade with minimal impact and cost. The 300i SR/IR NFMS eliminates the need to routinely replace short-lived BF3 detectors traditionally used in the Source Range. This combined system replaces both Source and Intermediate Range channel, resulting in fewer spare parts and less maintenance.

The system has been designed to maintain existing operator and Reactor Protection System interfaces and contains no high-voltage, coaxial cable, or triaxial cable in the control room.

  • Qualified for 1E Safety-Related applications, with 40-year qualified life
  • Fission-chamber–based neutron flux monitoring system
  • Provides neutron flux measurement from reactor shutdown to reactor full power level or from 10-2nv to 1010nv in a harsh environment
  • Designed to measure neutron flux with the detector in a high gamma radiation and electrical noise environment
  • Provides reliable measurement before, during and after a design basis event (DBE)
  • Signals from the wide-range amplifier are connected to the rack-mount signal processors
  • Signal processors are designed to replace existing Source Range and Intermediate Range drawers; can be designed to look similar in appearance to existing equipment to minimize training of plant personnel and changes to plant operating procedures
  • Monitors convert signals from the amplifiers into signals that represent the source range count rate, the intermediate range power level, and the rate-of-change of reactor power level; also provide adjustable alarms when the SR or IR levels exceed setpoints
  • Source Range and Intermediate Range signal processors are provided in 19 in. rack-mounted enclosures with LCD digital and bar graph meters
Includes: Each Source Range/Intermediate Range channel consists of:

  • Wide range detector assembly (with integral cable)
  • Junction box
  • In-containment cable assembly (from junction box to inside penetration)
  • Amplifier cable assembly (from outside penetration to amplifier)
  • Amplifier assembly
  • Optical isolator assembly
  • Signal processor cables
  • Source Range signal processor
  • Intermediate Range signal processor
  • Shutdown margin monitor assembly
  • Wall-mount signal processor assembly

Compliance: Meets U.S. NRC Regulatory Guide 1.97 Post-Accident Monitoring Requirements
